Cuban missile Crisis

One major event that occured during the Cold War was the Cuban Missile Crisis. This crisis brought the U.S. and the Soviet Union close to a nuclear war. This nuclear war would be another world war. The creation of the two alliances NATO and Warsaw Pact would bring most countries at war.
The Cuban Missile Crisis began with a Nuclear Arms.In this race the U.S. competed against the Soviet Union to create the strongest and build nuclear weapons the fastest. Both countries had their own technological advancements.
In about 1962, the Soviet fell very behind the U.S. and in order to keep up and defend against a nuclear war the Soviet used Cuba.

The Soviet Union set up nuclear weapons in Cuba and would launch them against the U.S. if needed. The Soviets thought using Cuba would be a very smart thing to do. By doing this, they were prepared for a nuclear attack. President John F. Kennedy found out about the Soviet's plan and decided to surround Cuba with ships and stop the Soviets from bringing more nuclear weapons in to Cuba. Kennedy came up with a proposal for the Soviet Union, he wanted the Soviet Union to remove all nuclear weapons and personnel from Cuba .In exchange the U.S. would not invade Cuba. Kennedy refused when the Soviet Union came up with proposals of their ownn .This part of the Cold War was later known as "the hottest moment of the Cold War". There could have been a great war and these nuclear weapons would have done major damage and made have been the end of the world if nuclear missles where exchanged in warfare. Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev made a decision to accept the proposal made by Kennedyby doing so the Soviet Union removed all nuclear weapons and personnel from Cuba. The US. didn't invade Cuba and a major conflict was avoided.

NATO

North Atlantic Treaty Organization also known as NATO was a defensive alliance formed between 12 nations from North America and Europe. Fully established by April 4, 1949 NATO was formed primarily to create a strong defense against the spread of communism. NATO provided support and economic aid for the countries that had suffered massive damage from WW II. NATO had discovered another goal, this goal was to form a stronger defense and also to stop the Soviet Union's production of nuclear weapons. As NATO was being developed
the Soviet Union created its own defensive alliance in respond to NATO.Known as Warsaw Pact this alliance was established on May 1, 1955.

The Soviet Union and its surrounding countries made up Warsaw Pact.Soviet Union positioned all the troops in the surrounding countries by doing this it helped strengthen the Soviet Union's power over its satellite nations. These alliances were both extremely powerful.Despite power and goals neither countries alliances went at war which is surpising.

NIGHT and Fog

The movie "Night and Fog" gave me quite a surprisng reaction. The movie was very graphic beyond imaginable.I loved the movie mostly due to the fact it was actual footage and not an edited version.Watchin the movie made me feel as if I were apart of every scence.I felt as if I were feeling the torture and taurment that the jews felt. This film was very powerful it gave me a better understanding of the holocaust. The movie was more graphic compared to Shinder list.Shinders List was a hollywood film Night and Fog was a documentary making it factual.Shinder's list was an edited version of the holocaust and Night and Fog was the real story with the actual surviors and footage. This is why inmy opinion Night and Fog best illustrates the holocaust.

"Shindler's List"

"Shindler's List" was a very graphic movie. It showed how the jews were treated.Jews were beaten killed even sent to death camps where they faced the most horrrific deaths imaginable. This movie showed how the Jews were forced to go on trains and were on their way to death camps. They were crammed in to tiny trains cars that was hot and terrible conditions. This movie also shows the holocuast and what the Nazi's did to the jews.Though graphic and brutal it allowed me to see the pain and torture the jews went through. It also made me more interested in the film and gave me a better understanding.
The scence from the movie that will stay with me is when the jews get moved t0 the ghettos. The ghetto was a small area in which many jews were crammed in to.These places were surrounding by obstacles so the jews could not escape.Living conditions were harsh. This scence will stay with me because I have always thought growing up in a bad neigborhood was considered the ghetto but as I saw the word ghetto originated from the holocaust.

Atomic Bombing of Japan

I disagree with the article about the Bombings in Japan being the top news story of the century. The bombings were indeed very important but should not be ranked #1.The bombing showed U.S was superior to all .It took hundreds of thousands of lives.I agree with the bombing thoigh taking many lives it also saved millions more in the long run becuase it put an end to the war.The U.S. not only used the bomb to signify power and advancement but also used Japan as an example which showed the world our power and bravery.

Everything on the article is in the right place except for the discovery of aids. This should be ranked #1.Millions of people have aids and most of them are not aware.Aids also has the highest death rate of Afican Americans.Aids is a very serious disease. There is believed to be not a cure but i believe there is.The goverment just wants to make money off the people charging a million dollars for a cure this is another way of decreasingthe earths population.Though it is my opinion many would agree the discovery of aids should br ranked #1 and the bombing of Japan ranked #2.

Germany at War

Propaganda is a way of spreading new ideas, the view of indivisual perspectives. Propaganda is usually used to help support an idea, or to express a view or an opinion. It can be shown in many ways such as posters commercials, , and in cartoons.
The poster shows that if the Nazi's have taken over Europe andtakes over other countries it will be a great success for Hitler. The cross represents the Prime minister of Britain, stating Britain will collaspe due to the Nazi's . The iron fist shows that Germany is ready for war and is going to take over the Soviet Union. The iron fist punching a man in his face is indicating it is Stalin who in which was a great leader of the Soviet Union. Stalin helped the Soviet Union grow and industrialize.
There is also a picture of a baby in a cradle which shows security among the German people. The expansion and prosperity of Germany is indicated by the picture of land that will increase living space. The picture of a factoryi ndicates that Germany is producing mass amounts of weapons for the war .Germany will bring more resources which could be used within the factories. I find this poster mainly to be showing Germany's superiority to other countries and showing Germany's expansion in Europe. This poster shows Germanys future goals not actually being factual but more of a fantasy.

Treaty of Versailles

1914 is when World War I began 1918it ended with the result of The Treaty of Versailles. Significant losses in food, money, and homeswere lost in European countries during the war . Delegates from several European countries met at the Palace of Versailles to make up for these loses. These delegates aimed to find a way to recover from the losses brought by the warAustria-Hungary and Germany ended up losing the war.The delegates at the palace decided to have Germany pay for the losses from the war.Germany was forced to accept the blame for the war with that in say The Treaty of Versailles stated that Germany had taken full blame for the war and was forced to pay for repairs throughoutall of Europe. Germany lost some land and over sea colonies, the colonies and land were then distributed between Britain and France.

The Treaty of Versailles had a great impact on Germany's economy.Raw material was harder to get due to the loss of the colonies. All the damages durint the war Germany had to pay for. Germany lost massive amounts of money. It is believed that The Treaty of Versailles led to the rise of Fascism and Hitler. The Treaty was very harsh towards Germany.
The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to regain its power. WIth a strong and promsing man like Hitler,Germany saw its rise to victory.Hitler became a strong powerful leader also insane and dangerous. With all the pressure and hope on one leader Hitler was Germanys onlyhope.

Mustafa

An ideal leader by the people of Turkey also chosen to lead the country because he was a military hero during World WarI would be Mustafa. Shortly after the World War around the early 1900s Mustafa was recognized as the first President of Turkey.Mustafa 's goal was to make Turkey more secular. In a Secular society people pay very little attention to religion and religious matters. Not wanting religion involved in society, he removed religion from education, cultural and legal affairs, and the country.Mustafa made many changes in Turkey that helped modernize the country. Such as the spread of new ideas, removal of class system, emphasis on peasants, and economic growth. Due to his beliefs that there should be equality and freedom for all people in Turkey, he also decided to remove the social class system that existed in the Ottoman Empire,in which this may have caused more equality between people. Mustafa also emphasized the importance of the peasants in the country.Peasants were neglected in the past and Mustafa knew it was time for a change so he declared to the people of Turkey "The true owner and master of Turkey is the peasant who is the real producer". He also changed Turkeys economic society by expanding in agricultural production, industrial growth, and allowed major technological advancements in Turkey with these changes in play it caused the national production in Turkey to grow five-fold within one decade. Mustafa removed aspects of religion from being taught or discussed at schools to make Turkey more secular he also removed religion from cultural affairs and legal matters. New styles of clothing replaced religious appearel. The people of Turkey believed that Mustafa was a great leader.Turkey was finally secular country.

Ghandi

A powerful leader in which he used non vioent protest to gain independence from India was the world famous Ghandi.. Gandhibelived the only way to gain independence was to persue protest without fighting back against Britain.. Gandhi lead protests and campaigns to gather followers and rebel against the British. One of the most significant campaigns was the salt march.Ghandi led his followers on a long 240 mile walk during the salt march. He believed that the Indian people should not be taxed on their salt so he managed to walk to the coast . Less salt from Britain was being brought due to the self production of salt the indians were making. .To drop the sales of British clothing Gandhi advised the people of India to make their own clothes, Gandhi himself spent two hours a day making his clothes. This campaign was very successful.WWII had a great effect on Ghandi's success. It made Britain too weak to fight against India leaving a high chance of independence possible.Ghandi was a great and wise man. With a strong leader like Ghandi the saying one person can change the world becomes very believable.
